How to add/remove an email account on an Android

Created by Daniel Younkin, Modified on Thu, Dec 7, 2017 at 10:28 AM by Daniel Younkin

Add an account to your device

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Users & accounts and then Add account
  3. Tap the type of account you want to add.
    • To add your Google Account, tap Google. When you sign in with a Google Account, the email, contacts, calendar events, and other data associated with that account automatically sync with your device.
    • To add a different personal account, tap Personal (IMAP) or Personal (POP3). You'd generally choose these if you use an email program like Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail. Learn how to use IMAP or POP3 with Gmail.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. If you're adding accounts, you may need to enter your device's pattern, PIN, or password for security.

Remove an account from your device

When you remove an account from your device, everything associated with that account is also deleted from your device. This includes email, contacts, and settings.

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Users & accounts.
  3. Tap the account you want to remove and then Remove account.
  4. If this is the only Google Account on the device, you'll need to enter your device's pattern, PIN, or password for security.
